Speakerphone Embarrassment

A few weeks ago, I was talking to one of my co-workers about several projects we had been working on in the past few months. I put her on speakerphone so that I could have both hands free for pulling up data on my desk PC. A few minutes later, another co-worker entered my office with a report pertaining to one of our projects which we had been anxiously awaiting. The co-worker who handed me the report was silent, seeing that I was on the phone. I told the co-worker I was on the phone with that I had just received the report from the other co-worker, to which she relied “He really creeps me out, for some reason”. Of course, the co-worker in question heard her say that, and there I was sitting their with my mouth agape at what had just happened. I looked at him and before I could say anything, my co-worker on the phone went into a tirade, criticizing this man for his demeanor while he was standing there listening to every word. I stopped her and said that I would have to call her back as I was needed down the hall. Needless to say, I was thoroughly embarrassed and apologized profusely for her behavior. I told him that I certainly didn’t feel that way or agree with her and that I hoped her saying those things would not give him a bad impression of me. I could tell he was upset, having just heard that someone disliked him for being himself, and I felt awful about the whole incident. After he left my office, I then started to think of how I had failed mention that he was in my office to my co-worker on the phone. I felt completely responsible for what would now be a strained relationship at best between those two.

I now only use the speakerphone option during meetings. I never heard any more from him in regard to the situation, nor did I ever tell my other co-worker that he had heard what she said. Despite nothing really happening, I plan to play it safe next time to avoid being sorry. Maybe I’ll get a headset for those times when I need both hands free. Anything which could help to avoid having a situation like that happen again is a smart idea.

Internet faxing easy guides: a cheaper way to send your fax

Nowadays, fax services are undeniable one of the most important
communications among human. If doesn’t matter how big is your
business, what’s your business nature and how you run your
business - you just need a fax service to send out those
documents. The recent survey that shows a bigger percentage of
business phone bills are for faxing prove that the fax is still
one of the ‘must-have services’ for your office.

However, faxing nowadays doesn’t rely only on conventional
faxing machine. By utilizing the Internet, we can now easily
send out ‘eFax’. Internet faxing,
or sometimes known as email faxing or online fax, is one of the
latest technologies that provides its users to send and receive
faxes without a fax machine. Instead, Internet access and an
email account is all that is required.

If you used a fax machine before then you can understand how
frustrating it is when the fax machine jams, cuts off page text,
stops in the middle of a transmission, or the receiving fax
machine is constantly busy or out of paper. Further more, the
extra cost of maintaining a fax machine become a heavy burden to
the users.

Internet faxing is giving a much more convenient faxing service
to the user compare to traditional fax machine. No more paper
jamming, smooth transmission, 24 hours stand by with no more
engage tone, and most of all, minimum cost for maintaining the
service. Also, Internet faxing users don’t need to pay for the
extra phone line, fax equipments and maintenance cost. All you
need is to pay the subscribing fees to the faxing software and
the cost per fax.

Seeing Internet fax as an effective answer to the old fax
machine, several vendors have produced and are selling Internet
faxing services nowadays. There are companies that offer
software only solutions that allow you to fax directly from your
computer to any fax machine; and there are services offer
fax-to-IP Internet gateway products, which are hardware-based
routers that emulate a fax machines.

Faxing services that use software (for example eFax or CallWave
fax) require that you sign up with fax service provider. For
eFax Internet faxing services, the monthly service charge is
from $0-$19.95 depend on which package you go for; while
limiting their users to only receive fax, CallWave fax charge
their users less than 10 bucks per monthly. The advantages of
using this method are that faxing becomes considerably cheaper
because you are not making long distance connections over the
phone lines, no hardware is required, you get faster
transmission, you can send many faxes at once, no dedicated fax
lines are needed, and a web interface is available if you wish
to add fax-on-demand capability to a website.

Another type of Internet faxing is known as fax-to-IP. Fax-to-IP
Internet gateway products needs hardware-based routers that
emulate a fax machines. With these, faxing is done in the
regular way using the fax machine, but the gateway device, which
then dials the destination fax machine and sends the fax,
interrupts the process. The fax-to-IP service is good if you
don’t send a lot of faxes, but would still like to take
advantage of the savings of using Internet delivery. It is also
good if you do a lot of international fax calls. The
disadvantages are that you won’t save much on either domestic
faxing, or faxing to countries where the Internet infrastructure
is less well developed.

Undeniable, faxing is one of the core communications in our
daily life. With the rise of high speed Internet, Internet
faxing had gave us a new option on faxing. As the monthly
running cost of Internet faxing is relative low and you can
always enjoy a free trial on the service, we believe you should
give a try on this latest technology.

How to Write Biographies for Strangers

What could possibly be the worst writing assignment you might get in school? Wouldn’t that be to write a biography about someone you never heard of? It would have to be someone who isn’t famous enough to be included in every encyclopedia. That really sucks. Well, here are a few tips you may be able to use if you get stuck writing a biography about someone you don’t know and couldn’t care less about.

First, check around the Internet to see if your subject has any Websites about him. If it’s a living person maybe he has his own Website. Just make a list of the Websites that really deal with what the person has accomplished. There is so much hateful stuff on the Internet now you don’t know if you would be repeating lies or telling the truth to report hostile remarks, so leave the animosity in the search results. Just focus on the factual information you find about your subject.

Can you learn where he went to school? If so, what did he major in? Is he into sports? Which sports does he like best? Thinks like that can help you write a quick biography about someone you have never met. You also want to be sure to mention what industry they work in. Here is a quick example to show you how to do this.

Dennis Tamburo has worked in the real estate and construction industries. He attended both Malcomb Community College and Central Michigan University. As a real estate professional Tamburo has helped many clients buy their own homes. As a construction industry professional he has helped many clients build homes.

It’s that simple. You could also mention that your subject is on Facebook, like: Dennis Tamburo has a Facebook account. And remember the sports thing, too. You can write: Dennis Tamburo loves to play golf. So maybe you’ll get lucky and have an exciting topic to write about, but if you get stuck with some boring guy, don’t give up hope. There may be enough out there to say something about him.

How Hank Got His Baby Nursery

Emma was awake and jumping around the house since morning. She was excited about the news of a new arrival at home, Richard had told her about it the night before while tucking her into bed. In the morning, she came rushing into the kitchen with a worried look on her face and asked gravely, “Oh! What about a baby nursery? Don’t all babies have to have one?”

On hearing this, Richard and I both burst out laughing. Well, that was a valid point she had! All babies have one! So, Richard asked her to choose the place where we could have the baby nursery made and also the things they would fill the nursery with. Emma was so happy to hear this that she immediately started searching for the perfect place for the baby nursery.

Emma wrote down all the information on the baby nursery in her little note book. Sometimes, she would get confused and overwhelmed by the wide assortment of toys from which she had to pick. At such times she would call Richard and ask her father to help her with the choices.

A week before Hank’s arrival both father and daughter went to the stores to buy supplies for the baby nursery. After getting back, they set to decorating the nursery and filling it with all the things they had bought.

Emma was waiting anxiously for the day when Hank would be coming home. She hoped he would like the baby nursery she had so painstakingly decorated for him. Finally, when Richard brought him home, Hank’s the first trip was to the nursery. He started chewing on the rugs and toys to claim his territory!

Well! Now I could safely tell Emma that Hank, our chocolate brown cocker spaniel puppy definitely loved the nursery she had done up for him!!

Global Crisis Affects Philippines

The long-term effects brought about by the global recession will have grim repercussions for the Philippines. Even after developed nations have recovered from the decline, the Philippines will still suffer unemployment, weak exports and increased budget shortages. Official statistics have churned out optimistic outlooks for the country but these are misleading.

For instance, economic administrators preferred to emphasize the 6.9% increase month on month instead of the bleak 36.2% year on year total import reductions. They failed to state that the slight growth in month on month number is attributable to an increase in cereal and cereal preparation importation.

Cases of international financial crises are more than just minor setbacks. The global financial crisis is forcing the Philippine government to take more stringent measures for its economy. Below is a list of the important issues the government is facing:

The country’s extreme dependence on machinery and electronic parts is proving to be a problem for its exports.

Export labor rules need to be re-examined; the new economy and employment policies could upset Filipino employment overseas.

The country is facing insufficient infrastructures to deliver social services due to overpopulation problems. It is speculated that the government should administer a rising population policy in order to stem poverty.

Smoking Causes Substantial Financial Damage, LSE Report Shows

A report published by the London School of Economics (LSE), and commissioned by the National Health Service under its ongoing campaign against smoking in the workplace, shows that UK businesses are suffering a loss of more than £2.1bn every year out of smoking related causes.

The most significant causes of this considerable loss to companies is due to leaves taken for smoking induced health issues, which lead to about £1.1bn in costs. Secondly, there is the loss caused by regular cigarette breaks that are taken by smoking employees, estimated to decrease productivity, and thus leading to costs of about £1bn. In addition, there is the damage caused by fires and accidents that results directly from smoking.

The £2.1bn figure however does not include any loss to company image due to employees smoking outside the premises of the office as well as the discontent of non-smoking employees who may think that their smoking counterparts are less responsible, as they take numerous breaks.

The formula devised by LSE will be helpful in calculating the average loss of revenue caused by smoking and the changes in company health policies that can adequately tackle the problem, said Professor Alistair McGuire who was leading the project. Contact the experts at Workplace Law Training to find out about their iosh managing course which can assist companies in training staff to be aware of the proper health and safety procedures for your organisations health and safety management system.

The main area of concern now is developing an appropriate response to this problem. Dr Linda Bauld, from the University of Bath and UK Centre for Tobacco Control Studies commented on the efficiency of support programs in the workplace that can be effective if they combine expert advice with medical assistance in this regard. She emphasized that research has proved that stop smoking support programs help employees quit smoking and thus they can reduce the losses caused due to this harmful habit.
