Things to Consider When Choosing Barbecue Meat

Everybody loves a good barbecue. But once in while, we get that itch when we just want everything to be absolutely perfect - from the bbq marinade to the the barbecue meat to the paper plates and cups. Speaking of barbecue meat, there are some things you should consider when choosing meat to help bring out the perfect flavor of the barbecue.

In general, the most common barbecue meat choices are beef, pork and poultry, with each type of meat having something different to offer to the palate. As a general rule, select meats that were derived from younger animals since these would be tender and more flavorful.

Barbecue meat tip # 1. Beef cuts ideal for barbecues are the New York strip, Filet Mignon and Rib eye. The appropriate thickness of the beef should be about a full inch. A little seasoning rub helps bring out the natural flavor of the beef without overpowering it.

Barbecue meat tip # 2. Poultry is another barbecue favorite that can either be in the form of duck, chicken, game hen or even turkey. Choice cuts of poultry like wings, legs and thighs can be marinated or flavored using a dry spice rub. Chicken breasts can also be seasoned in the same way before grilling.

Barbecue meat tip # 3. Pork is a barbecue staple enjoyed by everyone. It is the simplest type of meat to barbecue. To appreciate the flavor of pork, choose lean cuts like tender chops and spare ribs or baby back ribs seasoned with spices or barbecue sauce.

Seasoning Meats

Barbecue rubs give traditional barbecue a whole new dimension. It makes for a tastier and more flavorful barbecue. In fact, most famed barbecue restaurants use rubs to give their ribs, chicken and steaks a rich deep flavor. Barbecue rubs should be rubbed thickly into the meat and left there for at least four hours or more. When grilling, the barbecue rub will give the meat a nice, chunky and crusty coating.

Ideally, you should rub the meat first, and then add the sauce while grilling. Barbecue rubs come in all kinds of mixtures. For a nice brown color, you should add some more brown sugar. Paprika is also a popular ingredient in rubs. It has a very light peppery taste, and gives the meat a nice, rich, brown color. Oregano, thyme, and rosemary are excellent herbs which go well with red barbecue sauces. Rubs also typically have onion and garlic powder to flavor the meat.

For an all-around sauce, try the Jim Bean Honey BBQ Sauce and Maguire’s Irish BBQ Sauce. They are two exceptional sauces that can be used for any type of meat even fish.

On the other hand, the Bone Suckin’ Sauce Rib Rub, the Cowtown BBQ Seasoning and the Habanero Seasoning from Hell are multi-purpose dry rubs that can be used to season everything from beef, pork, poultry, fish as well as eggs and pasta.

The Current Laptop Trends

Its mad that laptop computers are now becoming a common gadget, as if you should own one. Taiwan, which is the capital manufacturing country of laptops is struggling with the demand at present. It looks like once there are pending orders those will only grow because demand for laptops is not dropping at all. It’s a quick changing business that is seeing new trends all the time.

With all the new insights in technology gaming laptops have benefitted a great deal in my opinion. I feel gaming laptops have never been cheaper. You can find some extremely good deals out there that will get you playing games. I feel laptops are a excellent choice for gaming. Maybe not exactly for the hardcore but they’re great for the majority of us. Compact parts that perform better and are more heat efficient also means that gone are the era’s of the enormous notebooks for gaming. Power of computers should always be a light year ahead of laptops but its still encouraging to see. Gaming laptops are constantly pressuring the performance barriers of notebooks so its always a good indicator of how far the technology has come in those terms.

Custom built laptops have been here for a long time now and despite big companies selling pre-built laptops through retail it looks like there will forever be laptop builders out there prepared to build something specific to your wants. With custom built laptops you normally get to know what brand of parts is going into the laptop. By being able to specify exactly what you need you can even save cash in a few cases. Let me say it how it is. You quite likely are not like the masses and so normal laptop computers won’t do. Mass customisation of laptops has got by this issue. I feel one also gets increased support when getting a custom laptop. Yet again an additional point to custom notebooks.

I am actually waiting to see what laptop computers come to market in the future. The current trend along with those discussed looks to be inexpensive ultra portables. I feel the notion for such a portable came from the requirements of the third world. In my view the market would react well to a 15 inch variant based on the exact roots. No doubt that manufacturers already have their designs made up. Companies are packing more performance into laptop computers and it looks as if gaming laptops will become sleeker and lighter. I really can’t guess what to expect apart from those produtcs spoken about. Some company developing something to be distinct in a saturated market.

Tips On Selecting Your Custom Car Cover

If you take extended trips away from home, one of your concerns is the care and protection of your car while away. Unless it is garaged, it is subject to damaging rays from the sun, bug splatter, bird droppings, falling branches, nicks, scrapes, and more. Upon returning from your trip the damage is evident and not easily reversed. You can prevent problems in the first place by installing a custom fit car cover to protect your investment. Not all car covers are created equal, so here are some things you should consider before making your purchase.

Car covers are basically all the same, right? Absolutely not! There are car covers which are anything from what is essentially a loose fitting tarp to those like the BMW car cover which are custom designed for the particular make and model of the car. A loose fitting car cover can actually cause more problems than it can help as unwelcome moisture, debris, and harmful UV rays will still be able to get in.

When shopping for a car cover consider what it does other than cover your car. Questions to ask include:

Does it protect from harmful UV rays? If you live in an intense sun area, such as Florida, you need a car cover offering the maximum protection from the sun.

How durable is the material? Will it rip if exposed to ice and snow?

Will it resist or completely repel rain?

Can it withstand intense heat or intense cold?

Will the product resist dust? Some car covers prevent even the finest dust from accumulating.

Does the car cover have extra layers to protect from dings? This is important to have if you leave your car in a public lot!

In addition, you will want to know if there is a lengthy warranty included, what colors are available, and what are the return policies, if any.

Yes, you can even remove and clean some car covers yourself. Those made of super weave material can actually be placed in a washing machine and cleaned using cold to warm water, regular laundry detergent — without bleach, and dried on your dryer’s permanent press cycle. In all cases make sure you strictly follow manufacturer specifications for the proper care of the car cover you purchase.

So, whether it is a Ford car cover you are buying or one for a Kia, Lexus, or Range Rover you can protect your car’s exterior and interior by selecting a custom car cover that is right for your vehicle.

Baseball Gambling

Baseball gambling is considered to be one of the sports in which bettors are surer to win profit. Because of the great amount of baseball gambling games that are played over the season, handicappers have a lot of data to analyze and fix the baseball gambling lines.

Like any other sports gambling activity, baseball gambling involves being conscious of the different factors that could affect a game before placing a bet. For example, you should always consider the underdog; because odds could be against him it doesn’t mean he cannot win, others factors could demonstrate that. Probabilities show that teams mostly win at their home stadium, so remember to take importance on the home team. Check if any defensive player is injured, not having one of these guys in a game could really affect the outcome of the game, and more if he is one of the best players on the team.

In baseball gambling you should remember that the pitcher is an important part of a team, maybe the most. So you really should pay attention on how he has been doing in past games or any injuries he has suffered recently. His mood, motivation and physical condition could turn the game over.

Unlike football betting or basketball betting spread, baseball gambling doesn’t need to win by a number of points against the other team, but only to win the baseball game. MLB Baseball gambling odds are balanced in a way that the number of bets placed on the favorite team are similar as the number of bets placed on the underdog team. With MLB baseball gambling you must analyze every game and analyze the baseball gambling odds, you should also consider the factors that could affect the outcome mentioned in this article.

Though baseball gambling is not a strong activity in sports wagering, it offers a great chance to study the probabilities and betting odds before making a bet in your favorite online Sportsbook, since its large number of games helps handicappers form a better prediction.

Weight Loss - Are you Frustrated? Have low energy? Don’t feel good about yourself?

Twenty years of health club consulting, 50,000 hours of paid personal training, and trainer to the stars has taught me one thing; weight loss is not about numbers, it’s about your approach. Here it is in a nut shell!

#1: Determine HOW you are motivated and WHERE your desires come from. You may think you know but you don’t. If you fall on a off the wagon you don’t know how you are motivated. People are motivated two ways, fear, pleasure or both. Your desires to feel better look better and are in better shape come from two directions, inside or out. Most people who fall off their exercise and weight loss programs do so because you are motivated by the wrong one of the two. And your desires come from the wrong direction. Figure these out and you will have staying power.

#2: Figure out the true beliefs behind each unwanted behavior of not exercising and eating wrong. You have a false belief system in your head about food and exercise. Determine what it is and then you can change it. If you are not following through and sabotaging your programs, it is because of the illusion in your head.

#3: Develop a GREAT support system. Steps two and three are your key to your success in your weight loss. Encouragement backed up with accountability is the key.

#4: Concur your emotions behind your eating patterns. Pre plan your meals, have a good perspective toward food, figure out patterns, and watch your portions. That simple.

#5: Just move your butt. Weight loss is not complicated. Keep the big picture in mind. Stay constantly moving, and quit making dumb excuses.

There are no magic formulas to weight loss. Until America wakes up and understands that your health is not about the numbers on the exercise or medical charts, it’s about the approach, we will continue to be the fattest nation on earth.

Profiles of the Powerful: Advertising Exec Dudley Fitzpatrick

In a sense, the entrance to SFGT is a window into the person who leads the company, Dudley Fitzpatrick, CEO. Open the big front door of the old town house on Walnut Street and the first thing you notice is three old stone steps. Couldn’t they afford new steps?
Then you see the second door. It’s all glass and through it you see the modern reception room,
the classic furniture, the attractive receptionist and the small oriental rug in the center of the beautiful wood floor. “I get it,” you think to yourself.

When you meet Dudley and chat with him, you really get it. He’s a traditionalist, like the steps and the beams on the ceiling. He’s confident and assertive, like the stately furniture and the offices themselves. He’s tasteful, like the oriental rug and like the conference room on the fifth floor. You go there for the interview after a trip on the modern elevator.

And Dudley’s a trip.

This is a man who knows where he’s going, who wants to do it the right way, who has strong feelings about his beloved business. Notice that I didn’t say “his beloved advertising business.” He has different views about that way of looking at the business of marketing and advertising.

Life and career are quite different than he would have anticipated when he graduated from Miami University in Ohio. He got a degree in Mass Communication even though he says he went there primarily “to play hockey.” While there, he discovered that “movies were more fun” and decided that he would like to write movies. Off to New York, he “bummed around for over two years” trying to connect in the film business and finally had to get a steady job.

He decided to settle for “30 second movies” and he landed a job in the creative department of one of New York’s biggest agencies, now known as Ammirati Puris Lintas. There, he worked exclusively on television and participated in network spots for Heineken, Diet Coke, Lysol and Mennen.

The agency was account-service dominated which influenced his firm belief that “strategy and creative are really the same thing.” That is an idea which continues to drive his work and the agency’s intentions.

While in New York, he was recruited to a Los Angeles agency, Dancer Fitzgerald-Sample. He took the job and became their youngest ever vice president but he admits that he probably took it because making movies still had some intrigue for him. At D-F, he worked on their efforts to get accounts to supplement their Toyota business. The agency landed Pioneer Electronics which became one of his proudest successes. His campaign, “Catch The Spirit of a True Pioneer,” led Pioneer to great success.

Dudley created and produced the first music-video commercial in the industry for his client, Pioneer. It was a takeoff on West Side Story. Because it reflected the social realities of that era, it was selected to be part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian’s Cultural Mores Section.

Both Dudley and his wife, Tanice, were raised in New Jersey. They live there now, in Pennington, with their three children: Aubrey, Drew and Tess. The two older children go to The Lawrenceville School, Dudley’s alma mater. The proximity to New Jersey was one of the reasons he responded to an opportunity at Lewis Gilman and Kynett (now Tierney Communications.)

He was very impressed by the quality of LG&K’s work. As vice president and group creative director, he participated in what he calls their “glory years” but was one of the victims of one of their many top management changes.

He and a good friend at LGK, Bob Schell, were both let go with quite limited severance. Fortuitously, they were contacted by Herr’s Potato Chips which offered them
the account if they wanted to start an agency. That was in 1992, the beginning of what is now SFGT. Herr’s was with them for 12 productive years. Today, the agency has 30 people and serves eight accounts. Interestingly, two of their accounts, Tylenol and Sunoco, are deeply involved in NASCAR racing.

Dudley feels that their work with NASCAR is one example of why he prefers not to be thought of as a traditional advertising agency. He insists that the agencies which rely primarily on “advertising” for success are on the wrong track. His vision calls for an agency which is deeply involved in all aspects of a client’s marketing communications activities. For SFGT’s clients, NACAR is one (important) ingredient in all-inclusive programs for the clients’ core consumer markets, for clients’ public relations focus and for clients’ employee pride.

When asked about the account he is most proud of, he winces and reminds me that he’s proud of every account. Prodded, he volunteers that he is particularly proud of the work SFGT did for the opening of the Constitution Center. His feelings of patriotism seem to be reflected in the positioning they created for the Center, “The Freedom To Be You. It All Starts With The Constitution.”

Oddly, he says that the “dumbest” and the “smartest” things he ever did in business are actually the same thing. “The smartest thing I ever did was to surround myself with my two partners: Sarah Lenhard, Managing Director and head of Account Service and Dan Reeves, Managing Director and Executive Creative Director.” The dumbest thing? “Not bringing them on board sooner.”

That supports his conviction that the toughest part of the ad business is finding, hiring, nurturing and growing with good people. He worries about that because he finds it difficult to find candidates with outstanding talent, valuable experience and a good cultural fit. He also worries about the possibility that good clients may be losing confidence in agencies. He says, “Agencies have to be emotionally able to have complete confidence in themselves in order to be secure enough to warrant meaningful collaboration from clients and in order to provide optimal service.”

Dudley Fitzpatrick is confident. It’s apparent. Think about the old stone steps leading into the agency. Sure, they could afford something new but “old” has character and character is what he wants to project. It’s apparent when you take the elevator to the spiffy conference room on the fifth floor. That’s another, positive message to visitors. It’s apparent when you hear his straight forward answers to direct questions. Yes, Dudley Fitzpatrick is confident about his agency, about his vision of the business he’s in and about himself.

Allan Kalish founded, managed and sold Kalish & Rice, one of Philadelphia’s largest ad agencies. He is currently chairman of Trichys, providers of
extranet and intranet solutions for online collaboration and document sharing.

Cisco CCNA Certification: The Hidden Details Of Telnet

Telnet is a simple yet powerful program that allows you to connect to a remote Cisco router or switch, and then configure it as though you were right at the console. Telnet is also one of those features that seems so very simple, until you get asked a half dozen questions about it on your CCNA exams. As with all topics, it’s the details you know about Telnet that will help you pass the Intro and ICND exams.

Let’s take a look at a few of these details. We’ll begin by debunking one common belief about Telnet:

Telnet runs at layer 7 of the OSI model, not layer 3!

It’s easy to think that Telnet runs at Layer 3 of the OSI model, the Network layer. After all, you’re entering an IP address when you telnet in to a router or switch, and you may be on another router when you do it! None of that matters. Layer 3 is strictly the domain of routing. Like other features that require input from the end user, especially authentication, Telnet runs at the Application layer of the OSI model.

Speaking of authentication….

Cisco routers require a password to be set before anyone can telnet in.

Cisco routers can run quite a few passwords. We can set an enable password, an enable secret, an enable secret and enable password, a password for PPP connections, and even a console password.

All of those are optional, but the telnet password is not. Makes sense - you wouldn’t want just anyone telnetting into your router, would you?

If you have no password set on the VTY lines of your router, no one can telnet in. If they try, they’ll see this message:

R1#telnet 3.3.3.3

Trying 3.3.3.3 … Open

Password required, but none set

[Connection to 3.3.3.3 closed by foreign host]

To allow telnet access into a Cisco router, configure the VTY lines with a password and the login command:

R3#conf t

Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

R3(config)#line vty 0 4

R3(config-line)#login

% Login disabled on line 2, until ‘password’ is set

% Login disabled on line 3, until ‘password’ is set

% Login disabled on line 4, until ‘password’ is set

% Login disabled on line 5, until ‘password’ is set

% Login disabled on line 6, until ‘password’ is set

R3(config-line)#password cisco

Note the messages you get after enabling login. These messages simply indicate that the login won’t work until a password is set. The order with which you use the login and password commands don’t matter just make sure you use them both.

We’re not quite done, though. The remote user can now telnet in, but by default, that user will be placed into user exec mode. If the user is to be allowed to enter privileged exec mode during a telnet session, an enable password or enable secret must be set.

R1#telnet 3.3.3.3

Trying 3.3.3.3 … Open

User Access Verification

Password:

R3>enable

% No password set

R3>

The user is stuck in user exec until you set a local enable password. Doing so will allow the user to use that password to enter privileged exec mode.

R3#conf t

R3(config)#enable password ccna

R3(config)#^Z

R1#telnet 3.3.3.3

Trying 3.3.3.3 … Open

User Access Verification

Password: < user entered cisco here>

R3>enable

Password: < user entered ccna here >

R3#

The user is now in privileged exec mode. There’s also another method to use so the user is placed directly into privileged exec mode when telnetting in, avoiding the enable password prompt. Use the command privilege level 15 on the VTY lines to do so.

R3#conf t

R3(config)#line vty 0 4

R3(config-line)#privilege level 15

R1#telnet 3.3.3.3

Trying 3.3.3.3 … Open

User Access Verification

Password: < user entered VTY line password here >

R3#

Note that the user went straight to privileged exec mode.

Managing Telnet Connections

We already know how to use Telnet (a layer 7 application) to access a remote device there are also commands that help us manage telnet connections.

“show sessions” is a common command to see what current telnet sessions are operating.

Telnet sessions do not have to be exited they can be suspended as well. The command to suspend the Telnet session is followed by striking the “X” key.

To resume this telnet session, enter the resume command followed by the session number (”resume 1″) and press .

To end a suspended telnet session, enter the disconnect command followed by the session number (”disconnect 1″) and press .

Achieving Goals Through Patience - Is Patience Out Of Date In The Modern World?

Patience, whether about achieving goals or anything else, is not a popular virtue in the modern world. How valuable is patience today?

A young woman in the UK has just been jailed for 20 years. She wanted to make three million pounds quickly by killing rich people.

As part of her plan, she conducted a trial murder by knifing a kindly neighbour 14 times. I am surprised that she had enough patience to conduct a test murder before moving on to her main targets.

A less exceptional example of impatience can be found in the world of cosmetic surgery where people are ready to suffer the surgeon’s knife to lose fat quickly. They are not prepared for the long haul of eating less and exercising more.

On the internet you are promised that you can learn how to write a book in fourteen days or even seven days. The question of whether such a book would be worth reading is not closely analysed.

However, I think there is a place for such promises because they inspire people to get started and write something. Without such inspiration, many potential authors will never write anything. The writing can always be improved later on.

Some people wait patiently all their lives to achieve a goal and then die before they start! Maybe the idea of patience has been misunderstood in the modern world.

For example, patience has been described as the ability to “sit back and wait for an expected outcome without experiencing anxiety, tension, or frustration.”

This description could describe someone’s experience on a toilet seat! There is no need to sit back and do nothing whether one is in a lavatory or somewhere else. However, action without anxiety, tension and frustration can only be a good thing.

One can work hard and with urgency on any project and still be so detached from the results that anxiety, tension and frustration are avoided.

Patience, then, does not mean sitting around and waiting for good things to happen; it means working hard but calmly and believing that results will eventually show up.

I just came across this quote which fits the above point exactly:

“The way to manifest (create the reality you want) effectively is to use patience and consistent action at the same time.”

Incidentally, before we leave the topic of toilets or washrooms, the average time spent on the toilet over a life time is three years. A lot of reading can be done over three years - the same length of time it takes to achieve a university degree!

Geoff Thompson, the martial arts expert and author, wrote his first book on toilet paper in the washroom at the factory where he worked! He is now a successful author of books, plays and films.

Moving on from the fascinating topic of toilet action, my Taekwondo Instructor once offered a black belt to anyone who asked for it.

No one asked.

They realized the lesson he was trying to teach. If you do not have the patience to train step by step for your black belt over a period of years, you do not deserve to have a black belt and are unlikely to have developed the skills worthy of such an honour.

Most martial arts help their students to reach black belt by allowing them to achieve step by step colour belt grades which break up the goal of achieving black belt into smaller stages. Most people can muster up enough patience to aim for their next belt over a period of two or three months.

Mercifully, the need for patience about goals is also limited in other ways. We do not have to rely patiently on other people to achieve our goals for us. A huge benefit in life is that we can usually make things happen ourselves. We do not have to wait for other people to take action on our behalf. You can train as hard as you like on your own to achieve your black belt. You do not have to rely on a friend to train with you.

We have the wonderful gift of being able to take as much action as we wish in pursuit of our own goals. Nor do we have to depend on certificates to qualify us to achieve our goals. Earl Nightingale said that one hour per day of study could put you at the top of your field within three years

When I watch the current world football cup competition, I have to remind myself that there is nothing I can do to win a match. I did buy English flags for my car but that was the extent of what I could achieve without moving to Germany and buying a ticket!

However, I can support my own goal achieving attempts one hundred per cent. We can work patiently in a stress free way on our own dreams and goals. We don’t have to wait impatiently for others to work for us.

We can be urgent in our efforts and actions but patient about results.

Results take time. A tree does not grow overnight though a weed might well do so! Patience is needed especially when results seem like they will never come.

When we become impatient for results, we make mistakes. A few years ago, I was inspired by a seminar to make money quickly through buying shares. I eventually lost £27,000 pounds to a fraudulent company based in Buenos Aires.

Most road accidents are the result of impatience as people drive too fast or try to jump the traffic lights or overtake at the wrong place. A Chinese proverb sums things up:

“One moment of patience may ward off great disaster. One moment of impatience may ruin a whole life.”

Patience allows us to let go of our need for immediate results and immediate gratification. It allows us to wait long enough for someone to cook a tasty and healthy meal rather than a ready made but unhealthy one.

My brother visits once a week and cooks a great meal. He has the patience to first read the recipe and then buy the correct ingredients and then cook them according to instructions. He is the opposite to me and my dentist who says: “Life is too short for stuffing mushrooms!”

My dentist and I do not appreciate that stuffing mushrooms with healthy ingredients might well prolong life as we start to eat more healthy food. In fact stress, brought on by impatience and the relentless haste of the modern world, is now seen as the biggest danger to health there is. Patience can literally save lives.

Patience is also of enormous value in human relationships. No one likes working or living with an uptight and irritable person. People who show compassion and understanding for those who are less quick on the uptake or who do not know how to behave properly are worth their weight in gold.

A brief moment of impatience can ruin a relationship for years to come. Whenever I have exploded in anger and impatience, little good has come of it even if the anger was fully justified. Irritation can easily lead to long term resentment and even physical confrontation

We also need to have patience with ourselves. Everyone makes mistakes. Mistakes do not mean the end of our goals and dreams. They can become the stepping stones to achieving our plans as we learn from them.

A whole book rather than just one article could be written about the value of patience but the following points are worth thinking about:

Patience does not mean waiting for things to happen. Urgent, swift action can be combined with patience about results. Patience also allows you to focus on your actions rather the results of your actions. You do not waste time watching the pot to see when it will boil.

If you lack patience, you can buy a black belt or university degree. But such honours mean nothing if you do not have the patience to put in the hours necessary to qualify for them.

It is a waste of time getting impatient about how your national team performs in a competition. There is nothing you can do about it. You can, however, take action on your own goals and projects. In addition, you do not need permission from anyone else to become an expert in the fields that interest you.

Patience can help you eat healthy food and avoid stress and the resulting stress related diseases. It can even save your life.

Patience can improve your relationships. It can help you avoid violent confrontations which could injure or kill you or put you in prison. Develop patience and you will have and retain many friends and even admirers.

The power of patience is not only necessary today. It is of crucial importance and is essential for the achievement of most worthwhile goals.

Read the Remarkable Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle is believed to be the largest lived in castles around at the moment and the oldest in continuous inhabitation (more than nine hundred years). It’s one of Queen Elizabeth’s 3 official residences, and is repeatedly said to be her preferred home. The Royal colours flies over the Round Tower of Windsor Castle every time Queen Elizabeth 2nd is at the palace - nonetheless, at other periods, the Union Jack flag flies instead. For details for Windsor Castle, visit the Enjoy England website.

Samuel Pepys once stated Windsor Castle to be “the solitary most romantic castle on the planet.” That was thought in sixteen sixty six and the equivalent is true today.

Windsor Castle Thrilling History:

The assembly of Windsor were in the early seventh century Saxon hamlet of Windlesora, where the existing day village of Old Windsor is located. The town of Windsor is normally branded as “New Windsor” - the phrase “new” being used in a relative way!

Windsor Castle was at first put together by the famed William the Conqueror, as a result of his raid of England in ten sixty-six. The original structure was put together from wood with ground fortifications. The Castle held an understandable strategic location on a tall hill just above the River Thames, and was part of an assortment of castles around the Capital, with the Tower of London, one whole days trip away, at its heart.

The Palace was soon rebuilt in stone, and grew in value over the centuries. In recent times Henry 2nd assembled the Round Tower and the original stone outer wall. After the English Civil War, the building’s major role became that of a royal house. Windsor Castle has stayed almost completely unaffected since the beginning of the nineteenth century, apart from the repair work that followed the terrible fire in 1992.

Deer Ticks

Hundreds of species of ticks are found across the world. The deer tick is a species of tick that is small and dark legged. It is also known as the seed tick or bear tick and feeds primarily on mice, deer, cattle, and humans.

In the United States, deer ticks are commonly found in Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Deer ticks await their potential host in paths and trails along woods and grasslands. They are also found in the den of smaller animals like white-footed mice, skunks, and raccoons.

Deer ticks complete their life cycle in about two years. However, in the absence of hosts, this cycle may take longer to be completed. Adult ticks feed in winter, and their preferred host is the white-tailed deer. Adult ticks mate while feeding on the deer. The male tick dies soon after mating, while the female tick remains attached to the host until spring. Then, she drops off and lays eggs.

Deer tick larvae emerge after several weeks from the eggs and generally feed on white-footed mice. These mice contain bacteria that cause Lyme disease. The larvae are infected when they feed on mice; however, they cannot transmit the disease. It is at the nymph stage that the disease is passed on to people and animals. Nymphs are very active between May and July. Therefore, people living in tick-prone regions need to be on high alert during this period to protect themselves and their pets from tick bites. They need to mow lawn grass regularly, prune shrubs, and remove weeds and dry leaves. Pets and their environments must be treated with tick-killing pesticides, while people should use repellent on their clothes before wearing them. Tick drags should also be undertaken routinely. This involves dragging a long, light-colored cloth over the tick-prone property.

Ticks do not fly or jump. They crawl onto the body of the host from shrubs and grass. In humans, deer ticks often target the back of the neck for feeding. They need to be attached for at least six to eight hours to transmit Lyme disease. Therefore, the disease can be prevented by removing a tick immediately after it has attached itself to a host.

To conclude, deer tick bites can cause the dangerous Lyme disease, which may affect the heart or the nervous system and lead to other complications. Therefore, it is essential to take adequate precautions to prevent tick bites.
