Book Signing for Experts

Think of your book on the bookstore shelf trying to attract the attention of potential new owners. Crammed together with hundreds of other books, only the spine visible to the roving eyes of readers, your book needs a little help from its creator. So much effort has gone into publishing it; can you afford to abandon it just as it hits the bookstore shelves? Your book needs your help.

Why not orchestrate a publicity-generating event such as a book signing with a mini-seminar, discussion, or reading where you can autograph your book? You can make a book signing tour worth your effort. If you are a new or emerging author with a small publisher, resources for promoting your book are likely to be very limited. If you are a professional speaker and an author, you can raise your celebrity status by doing a book signing in cities where you speak.

A book signing in a bookstore places your book “center stage” for a while, away from the crowded shelf. The event establishes a “pull” system which means the bookstore and its patrons ask for your books rather than the author and publisher having to persuade the bookstore to stock them. The author arrives as a celebrity.

There are many other venues in addition to bookstores. Jon Hanson, author of Good Debt Bad Debt, spent a lot of time writing in a coffee shop bakery. So many customers stopped by his table to check on the book’s progress that the owner of the coffee shop asked Jon to do a signing when the book was published. Bagels and Books?

If your book is nonfiction, conversations with your audience will indicate that you are a source of expert information. You have done a lot of research in this area. You may become a key resource in their future exploration of the subject matter. People generally take pride in having met and discussed a book with its author. There is reflected glory which sets that person apart from other readers and gives them a connection to the source.

If you’re not doing book signings, you may be leaving money on the table, overlooking an avenue to increase profits. There are many ways to promote your book, but none is as “up close and personal” as a book signing event.

Jo Condrill is a professional speaker, author, and consultant. She has conducted successful book signings from coast to coast, including one at the Barnes and Noble Store in Rockefeller Center, New York City. Jo is the author of: “Take Charge of Your Life: Dare to Pursue Your Dreams” and coauthor of “From Book Signing to Best Seller,” which was named the Best Writers Reference Guide of 2002 by the Bay Area Independent Publishers Association. Jo is also coauthor of “101 Ways to Improve Your Communication Skills Instantly.” This book has been translated into five languages by foreign publishers: Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Turkish, and Arabic. All of Jo’s books are available in bookstores and libraries throughout the US. Buying a Car? Check Your Credit Score First

Do you check your credit score and credit report before you go shopping for a car? You might find out that it is well worth your while to do so, as some auto dealers are taking advantage of the fact that many consumers do not know their credit scores.

No one likes buying a car; the entire process is awkward and cumbersome. Most items we buy are plainly marked with the price, but with cars, the price is often a mystery. Then you have to haggle with a salesman and hope that you have worked out the best price possible. Having done that, you have to arrange financing. You can often get an acceptable interest rate when financing through the dealer, but some dealers are padding their bottom line by offering loans at higher rates than they otherwise might.

The scam works like this - You negotiate your best price with the dealer and you agree to finance through them. You fill out the credit application and hand it over to the salesman, who has promised you some reasonable terms. He takes off to process the application and to check your credit report while you have a cup of coffee. He returns a few minutes later, shaking his head. He informs you that your credit score is only 600 and that you will not qualify for the interest rate he offered you. He says that you will have to pay a higher rate. And not knowing any better, you agree.

Had you done your homework by checking your credit score ahead of time, you would have known your actual credit score and you could have pointed out that the salesman’s assessment of your credit score was incorrect. At that point, you could insist upon receiving the more favorable interest rate or threaten to finance elsewhere. This is a common scam that works because most people really do not know their exact credit score.

Learning your credit score is easy. All you have to do is visit the Websites of one of the three major credit bureaus - Experian, Trans Union or Equifax. For a modest fee, you can receive a copy of your credit report with your credit score. Armed with this useful piece of information, you can shop for a car with a bit more peace of mind, knowing ahead of time whether or not you can qualify for the best financing.

What is Acne Complex?

Before getting into the details of Acne Complex, we need to know more about acne.

Acne is a skin disorder that usually happens when a person is in the teens. During that particular period of life, in both male and female bodies, Androgen, a male sex hormone, gets increased. This increase of Androgen does not necessarily happen in everyone’s body. But in whosever’s body this increase happens, it causes overproduction of sebum and keratin. This results in clogged pores of the skin and infection. This is called acne. In the case of acne the hormones can create acne beyond teenage years. Especially among the women this trend is seen.

Tim Grandage: Profile Of An Extraordinary Leader

I have been meaning to write this article ever since that one
fine January morning when I met Tim.

Future Hope is a home for street children in Calcutta. Tim
Grandage is the Founder.

In fact, Tim was a high-level executive at Hongkong-Shanghai
Bank in Calcutta when he found himself fascinated by the joy and
the life-force of the street children. On a monsoon afternoon,
as torrential rain clogged up the streets, and all the employees
at the bank were complaining, Tim watched a group of street kids
swimming in the rainwater on the streets, laughing, playing,
celebrating. Their joy had touched Tim somewhere rather deep
inside.

One day, one of these boys got ill, and he asked Tim for help.
Tim arranged for his friend, a doctor, to cure the child. That
was the beginning.

Before long, Tim was living with 32 street kids in his
two-bedroomed apartment, all including their host sleeping on
the floor.

And soon, his promising executive career at the bank was history.

Tim Grandage did something very few of us have the courage to
do. He put a cause that moved him at the center of his life, and
took a DIFFERENT path.

Today, Tim’s Future Hope is an internationally acclaimed
organization with 200 children under his care. These children
come from hopeless situations into a healthy and hearty HOME.
“It is this sense of belonging that they miss the most.
Otherwise, why give up the freedom of the streets for a far more
restricted and supervised life?” After all, these kids are quite
tough, and no one really starves.

Instead, under Tim Uncle’s thoughtful and fun supervision, the
kids get educated, gain confidence, learn some sports and the
arts. “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I asked a group
of kids.

“Aunty, I want to be a Computer Engineer like you …” This
response comes from a boy of about ten who was severely burnt as
the mosquito net under which he slept with his mother caught
fire. The mother did not survive. The boy came to Future Hope.
After some years, he has healed enough from the trauma to start
dreaming again. And dreaming big.

Tim is also dreaming big. He is buying land, building houses,
building schools, and expanding his infrastructure and capacity.

It is a dream that makes you weep in silent humility.

Data Protection: New Interpretation of the Data Protection Act

A restrictive interpretation of the Data Protection Act 1998 (”the Act”) will limit subject access requests1. Businesses may welcome the Court of Appeal’s judgment from Durant v FSA [2003], as it might make their obligations under the Act easier to fulfill.

The case of Michael John Durant v Financial Services Authority [2003] EWCA Civ 1746 - Court of Appeal focuses on the right of an individual to access his or her personal data held by an organisation. After a dispute with his bank, which involved the bank successfully applying an exemption which denied him the right of access to his data, Mr Durant complained to the Financial Services Authority (”FSA”).

Although the FSA investigated his complaint, it did not reveal detailed information about its investigation to Mr Durant. The FSA made available documents in computerised format but refused him access to manual files, claiming that the information sought was neither “personal” nor part of a “relevant filing system”. Mr Durant appealed.

The Court of Appeal held that:-

The purpose of the subject access provision is “…to enable [an individual] to check whether the data controller’s processing… unlawfully infringes his privacy and, if so, to take such steps as the Act provides (i.e. blocking or rectification)… It is not an automatic key to any information, readily accessible or not of matters in which he may be named or involved.”

Records that make reference to an individual are not necessarily “personal data”;

The records must be relevant or proximate to the individual (i.e. significantly biographical or of which the individual was the focus of attention). In deciding on a case-by-case basis whether information falls within the Act, two factors are relevant:

“…Whether the information is biographical in a significant sense, that is, going beyond the recording of the putative data subject’s involvement in a matter or event that has no personal connotations…
…information should have the the putative data subject as its focus rather than some other person with whom he may have been involved or some transaction event…In short, it is information that affects his privacy, whether in his personal or family life, business of professional capacity”;

It is not sufficient that the records just relate to something in which the individual was involved;

The records must contain “information that affects [the individual’s] privacy, whether in his personal or family life, business or professional capacity” - “It is likely in most cases that only information that names or directly refers to [a data subject] will qualify and “not all information retrieved from a computer search against an individual’s name or unique identifier is personal data within the Act”;

The definition of “relevant filing system” in relation to manual filing systems (i.e. paper-based) are those which are clearly structured, in a manner akin to computerised records, and within which the data must be readily accessible for reasons of practicality, easily identifying the fact that it contains personal data relating to the individual;

There must be clear warning to litigants that the Act: “…is not an automatic key to any information, readily accessible or not, of matters of matters in which he may be named or involved. Nor is to assist him…to obtain discovery of documents that may assist him in litigation or complaints against third parties.”

The Court ruled that Mr Durant should not be given the documents requested as, “mere mention of the data subject in a document held by a data controller does not necessarily amount to his personal data”.

Mr Durant is awaiting permission to challenge the Court of Appeal’s ruling in the House of Lords.

Health Insurance for the Self-Employed

When you are self-employed, the biggest drawback is finding good, affordable health insurance. You can spend weeks or months trying to find health insurance that you can afford, running the risk of an accident or calamity during your uninsured time.

However, there are options for you and services to help you find a great health plan for you and your family. There are several ways to go about your search, and we’re going to talk about each of these so that you can decide what’s best for you.

As with almost everything in our lives, the Internet is a great place to begin. With the click of a button, you can access hundreds of sites that will give you free quotes and great options.

If you search for terms like E-health insurance and self-employed insurance on any major search engine, you will find many possibilities. Most of these sites not only give quotes for hundreds of plans based on your age and location, but they also provide links for you to apply for the insurance plan of your choosing.

Many of the systems will allow you to compare up to four plans to decide which is best for you.

In addition, you can call a local health insurance provider, either before or after doing Internet research. Many times, it’s a good idea to do preliminary research on the Internet to gain some basic knowledge beforehand, then contact your local health insurance provider to check for good deals that may be available.

In addition, you can compare the plans, and then see if the health insurance provider offers you a similar, better, or worse deal when contacted in person.

Also, ask friends and neighbors which insurance they use and see what the advantages and disadvantages are for working with that company. Your best information will come from people who are already customers for a company as they have probably seen both the good and bad sides of the company.

To make your final decision, base your choice on trusted recommendations as well as researched plan options. Look at whether they offer dental and prescription insurance to supplement the basic health insurance.

If pet insurance or other specialty insurances are needed for your family, decide which of the providers can offer these options.
After all your research and discussions with family and friends, you can confidently choose the right health insurance for you through a company you trust.

Video Poker: Some Guidance

The distress of visiting a physical gaming establishment provides plenty of reasons to drop it in the first place. There’s no call to leave house to experiment with online video poker for the simple reason that you can do all this within your domestic surroundings if you possess a functional personal computer plus, obviously, a broadband connection to the Internet. Nonetheless, make no mistake– there are quite a few pointers that you need to be with concerning online video poker, especially should you happen to be a greenhorn.

Why wait? Top money gambling here.

The very first thing that a cagey virtual wagerer like yours truly will certainly chase out is an online video poker website of the type capable of promoting the best winning odds. See to it the online video poker website is overseen by a respectable bookkeeping company so as to assay the specific games’ payout percentage on a monthly basis. You must always be sure to ensure the virtual roulette website is actually legal, for example by checking out the government certified approbation as laid out on the casino site’s About page. If you are unable to localize any government certified approbation on that virtual roulette website, don’t ever try to lay your bets with this site.

Beyond that, another consequential advice would be to gamble at first in smallish amounts in place of doling out more than does you good on the fly. Check out the soundness of this virtual roulette setup rather than provoking any grave adversity– especially in terms of money! And here’s another most significant cue concerning online wagering. It is this- to always remember that gambling should be about entertainment and less about big dollars. Wagering in online casinos is not a business, but a hobby that is supposed to let you feel joyful and life as a whole pleasant. So, after having gone along with all these hints, you’re free now to submit to the enticement of virtual roulette…

When is it time to change your web hosting provider?

Building a web site is the easy part, getting it hosted right is
difficult. There are many options like Host way, iPowerWeb,
Homestead, which are paid hosts and many free ones like
GeoCities.

The cost of a paid service would be between US$ 5 and US$10 a
month. The most immediate advantage is that you pass on the
burden of storage, security, and bandwidth to another’s
shoulders.

A good host whether paid or free should have in place:

* Usable web design tools. And an updated server software.

* E-commerce advice as well as options likes form remailer,
chat, or bulletin board.

* Remote access. Allows access to and uploading of files from
anywhere in the world.

* Unparalleled services. Answers to technical questions as well
as solutions to problems. Customer service must be 24×7 in
actuality.

* Plan options.

* Sufficient disk space and bandwidth.

* A 24×7 uptime.

* A free trial option.

* Quality Internet connection plans. The host should be clear
about what they can offer for example, if they offer T1 then it
allows only 1.544 Mbps while an OC-256 allows 13,000 Mbps.

* Server speeds that are not hindered by the number of sites
being accessed simultaneously. Ping a site and see the response
time.

* Processors that can take immense load and not slow down the
site’s transmission.

* Tight and dependable security measures. Ensure that your site
will be protected from unwanted intrusions. Security protocols
should be clearly outlined. The hosting company must have plans
in place to upgrade and maintain security measures.

Sadly a web hosting dream can become a nightmare when: the host
does not keep promises, the site outgrows the hosting plan,
there are no responses to your e-mails or phone calls of
distress, the charges are way beyond your budget, the server has
a virus or other problems.

Do not panic, take a breath and try and solve hosting problems
by using web hosting talk forums. These are interactive and you

posting your dilemma.

Do your homework well visit one of the links below it will

The Dreaded Peanut Allergy

One of the best dietary proteins consumed in the United States is peanut butter. Even with its high level of popularity, eating peanuts at the local sports arena or rodeo, sitting around with the family snacking in front of a fire, or sending a child off to school with the ultimate - peanut butter and jelly sandwich, peanuts are one of America’s highest allergenic foods.

One of the main problems for people with a peanut allergy is that more and more foods are being made with peanuts or peanut oil. Making matters worse is that for people who know they have a peanut allergy, the ingredient is often masked on the label as “groundnuts” or “hydrolysed vegetable protein.” Although you cannot deny the wonderful flavor of peanuts, for people with a peanut allergy, even trace amounts can be deadly.

Just imagine having a peanut allergy and going out to dinner. You check the menu carefully, choosing food without peanuts. Unbeknownst to you, dinner arrives at the table and within minutes of eating the so-called “innocent” meal, you begin to have symptoms associated with a peanut allergy. The problem is that while the menu item did not contain peanuts, it was cooked in peanut oil. This scenario happens all the time and can be deadly.

Unlike other nut allergies, a peanut allergy, if serious, can prove to be fatal within minutes. Most often, the throat will begin to swell whereby the person cannot breathe. While this is the most critical symptom of a peanut allergy, other symptoms might include at varying levels:

Hives

Itchy or swollen lips, tongue, mouth, or eyes

Flushed face

Tightness in the throat, mouth, and/or chest

Running noise

Change in voice

Nausea and/or vomiting

Trouble breathing or swallowing

Wheezing, choking, and/or coughing

Onset of severe fatigue and/or dizziness

If the peanut allergy is new, then emergency care is needed immediately following any of the above symptoms. If the individual is aware of having a peanut allergy, a shot of epinephrine can be carried around discretely and administered at the first sign.

If you are sensitive to foods or notice changes after eating peanuts, then chances are you have some degree of a peanut allergy. In this case, it is crucial that you be tested by an allergist to determine if this is in fact a problem. If so, then the good news is that foods made with peanuts can usually be substituted with other nuts such as pecans or walnuts with little to no problem. Be sure to read labels carefully, when dining out, always ask if the food contains or is made with any type of peanut or peanut oil, and never share utensils with someone eating foods that might contain peanuts or peanut oil.

While immunotherapy has helped some people with a peanut allergy, remember that this type of allergy does not have a cure other than to avoid peanuts or peanut oil. Having a peanut allergy does not have to be something to fear as long as you are informed about the things being consumed.

Your Thoughts and The Law of Attraction

We have all heard the expression, “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” But to carry on without thinking about why you failed only leads to more failure.

The ability to create is a God given gift. A gift given to everyone without exception. Thought is the first step to manifesting any creation. Thoughts are energy, they are real. Your thoughts act as magnets and attract other thoughts, people, and circumstances that harmonize with them.

Thoughts operate and adhere to certain universal laws. Without these laws there would be no order; the universe itself would sink into chaos.

The Law of Attraction states that like attracts like. Much of what was once considered metaphysical, esoteric knowledge in the past is now scientific fact. Physics has shown that the principles involved in the Law of Attraction are every bit as valid as those governing the Law of Gravity. So it should come as no surprise that dwelling only on your problems simply attracts more problems.

The idea of attracting success by thinking about it is very appealing. So appealing in fact, people often get the wrong impression that it’s easy. Affirmations can be helpful, but mindless affirmations alone have no real value. On the other hand, once an affirmation becomes part of your belief system the subconscious goes to work attracting opportunities. It is not the success itself we attract, but the opportunity to succeed.

Our world is ruled by cause and effect, yet we often fail to see how this rule applies to the thoughts we think. This happens because the results of our thoughts are so far removed from the cause that we fail to see the connection.

The subconscious mind is working tirelessly 24 hours a day. It doesn’t analyze, it doesn’t judge, it simply accepts and attracts more of what the conscious mind is focused on. Are you attracting problems or solutions? By focusing on desire and showing gratitude for what you already have, the subconscious mind is given the necessary material to provide a constant stream of opportunities. Whether we take advantage of these opportunities or not is another story.

It’s impossible to operate outside the law of attraction. Consciously or unconsciously your thoughts, feelings, and emotions, determine if this law works for or against you. Stay focused on your success and reaching your goals. As one success leads to another, success becomes a habit. Problems and obstacles are seen as no more than stepping stones on the road to your ultimate goal.
